Hi,
I need your help in testing a little tool iv'e been workig on that should help setting up your own hosted sessions in Sail Simulator.
<strong>The Problem</strong>
With Sail Simulator it seems that some skipper suffer from instable network connections and whoe are not able to
do anything about it.
As far as I know the Sail Sims Host server is communicating to the game through TCP.. and from the numbers
online it would seam the server can't get past the low 30 simultaneaous connections..
As we plan to set up a teamracing competition, we need reliable stable connections..A fleet race may get by
with some stalling and jumping boats but close team racing at the edge of the knife will suffer too much.
<strong>The Solution</strong>
It might be that publishing host adresses so others can join locally hosted sessions could be a solution.
Locally hosted races use the UDP protocol rather then TCP. In some tests the last year we found that
races are more stable, boats do not stall or jump. This in a ad-hoc network with clients around 500 km
away, with a client-host-client distance of about 1000 km on average.
Well it's ready for serious testing.
Start NAT ing port 5001 (or what ever other port you want to use) for the UDP protokol.
If you already have your router configured for VSK to use port 2350 UDP then you could
use the same port in Sail Simulator... without ever touching your router configuration.
(For fast trial ok, but since each joiner then has to join on a NON default port... it may lead to confusion.)
Attached you'll find the manual on how to use this Sail Simulator Host list.
